When asked about the plan, Messer talked about there being more consensus than what you are hearing from Democrats. Later he said, “A lot of this is a distraction. Then after being asked about how this position could be harmful politically, Messer replied saying:

“The bottom line is, what you’re saying is the president’s an effective politician. He does a good job of distracting people from things that they ought to be focused on, and sometimes focusing them on things that while important, listen, none of us want to see student-loan rates spike, are only part of the larger problem.

“I think, as Republicans, we’ve got to do a better job of explaining how our ideas apply to young people. Sometimes it sounds like he’s selling ice cream and we’re selling spinach. But I think personal responsibility is pretty cool. There is nothing out of date about freedom, and we need to have the policies that get this budget back in line, stop the explosive growth of spending — spending that will be paid for by this generation. And we’ve got to do a better job of explaining that.”

This article is really misleading.

ICAN’s mission statement is;
“To qualify for the program, offenders must have a background clear of violent behavior.”
So why is Melinda, and Hope before her in this program? Indiana prisons are overflowing with non-violent offenders, so better choices are available.

No one knows who paid for Melinda’s attorney with her attempt at release in 2007 and Hope Rippey’s early release in 2006 is bogus and the funds are also suspicious.

ICAN appears to support only religious Caucasian inmates and the beneficiaries of the dogs they train appear to be only Caucasian as well.

Odds are, most of the recipients of the prison trained dogs ($900) are affluent enough to pay for the dogs on the open market ($16,000). It costs ICAN approximately $16,000 to fully train an assistance dog.

Sally Irvin is affiliated with an all white prison ministry called Kairos. Both Hope and Melinda are converted born again Christians while incarcerated and chances are they belonged to this religious prison org. Many board members have Indiana and NC connections.

Any time you vote for a pro-abortion candidate, you are contributing to the number of abortions that are happening every year in our nation. I’m old enough to remember when abortion was illegal. I guarantee that there weren’t hardly ANY abortions before Roe v Wade. You rarely heard about women that died from backstreet abortion. AND here’s an interesting fact for you: Guess who was doing the backstreet abortions?? The SAME doctors (or types of doctors now, of course) who perform abortion in the abortion clinics. They usually did the abortions after hours when their regular medical practice was closed. And – just as today – the girls didn’t receive good after care and instructions, and ended up dying sometimes from bleeding or infection. There is a big cover-up on how many women still die from LEGAL abortion…for the same reasons.

Why are we singling out people who get welfare? Tons of people get benefits from the government. Why are we choosing not to test those people, but are just testing welfare recipients?

In the United States we don’t assume people are guilty and make them pee in a cup to prove they are innocent. Thank God. This proposal would be the camel with the nose under tent, the slippery slope to mix metaphors. It wouldn’t end until every recipient of any gov’t assistance, in any shape or form, were presumed guilty and tested for drug use. That would mean all of us get tested. So much for our liberties.
