Pepper Snyder: Rethinking Abortion

By Pepper Snyder

bannerfans_6069793 copy 3I am extremely pro-life, extremely. I believe a fetus is an individual human being, regardless of the circumstances that brought that individual human being into existence. That being said, it’s time to rethink the abortion issue and quit relying on government, or rather, politicians, to change the law and “save the babies.” Why? Because relying on politicians to “DO SOMETHING!!” has resulted in nothing more than getting liberals elected to office and pathetic excuses for “Republicans” nominated to office simply because they claim to be “Pro-life.”

What happens when we manage to get Pro-life candidates elected? Absolutley nothing. And if they did actually do what they said they would and “overturn Roe v. Wade,” would anything change? No, nothing will change. Why? Because women have always found a way to abort/terminate their unwanted young. Long before Roe v Wade, women were aborting their children. Long before the scary and unsanitary “back alley abortions,” women were aborting their children. Long before modern medicine, women were aborting their children. There is no way to stop a woman from having an abortion who is pregnant at the “wrong time” and who does not believe she is destroying a baby, an individual human being.  One doesn’t need a doctor to “take care of it.” One only needs certain herbs, or an RU486 pill, or even an excessive amount of birth control pills can lead to a miscarriage.

“Ban them all!!” you say? You can make the case to ban abortion pill, RU486, should abortion become illegal. But herbs? Some of those herbs serve other purposes. Evening Primrose Oil is a lifesaver for many women who suffer severe breast pain caused by cysts (non cancerous). Those cysts flare up when hormone levels peak and sometimes the pain is unbearable. EPO is one of the few things that help, and sometimes get rid of altogether, the pain assciated with horomonal cysts. But lets say we succeed in making abortion illegal AND we ban all forms of herbs and modern medication that can even assist in causing an abortion. Will we end abortion then? No. We’ll probably make it worse. We made drugs illegal. Did they go away? No. Now we have a huge, unmanageable black market for those drugs. The rates of drug addiction have remained about the same since they were made illegal.

Likewise, if a woman wants an abortion, she’ll get it. “But, but! murder is illegal so using your mentality, we should just make murder legal since people are doing it anyways!” I could almost agree with that. “WHAT??” you scream at the computer screen… Let me explain:  I for one don’t prevent myself from murdering people simply because the law tells me I can’t. I, and I hope most people, believe that we can’t just go around killing people. However; I would never make the case that we should end those laws. Back to legalized murder, aka abortion: : any human being can look at a physically living, breathing person in front of them and recognize “That is an individual, living being.” They can SEE it’s a person. They can FEEL it’s a person. The law states that it is a person. A woman who aborts her young can not see and feel that she is carrying a baby. You can make the case for 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions that via 4D ultrasound, they can. Most abortions happen in the first trimester when the fetus literally looks like a little peanut on the ultrasound screen and is no where near big enough to be felt. Therefore it is quite easy for a woman who does not want a child to distance herself from “it.”

“Well, we should still work to elect politicians who will fight to make legalized murder, aka abortion, illegal.” We’ve been fighting to do that for decades, since 1973. We’ll continue to fight for decades more and nothing will change, and in fact abortion may even become more rampant. Abortion rates were on a steady decline up until the recent recession hit in 2008 and now they’re trending up again. They did not trend down due to a change in law. Likewise, the abortion rate isn’t increasing now due to more relaxed abortion laws. The abortion laws in the US have not changed in any way that would cause a decrease/increase in abortion.

I recently read the most well written, fantastic, clearly articulated article about “rethinking abortion.”  The article can be found here: Politics: Time for the GOP to rethink abortion politics. Basically the author, Dan Calabrese, makes the case that we should focus more on outreach and education than getting politicians to change the law. Pro-life organizations/groups donate MILLIONS to get roe v. wade overturned. That money goes to politicians running for office, political ads, and lobbying of congress and the senate. For what? Nothing has changed. Abortion is still quite legal. Those millions don’t even include the amount of money that is given by individuals to political campaigns simply because the guy/gal running is pro-life. “Who cares if all his/her policies will hurt the economy and put up barriers to our individual liberty, he/she is pro-life so that’s who I’m voting for!!” Meanwhile that pro-life candidate, who actually managed to avoid any abortion gaffes like Todd Aiken and Richard Mourdock, actually gets elected. Then they ususally go on to vote for legislation that imposes regulations that kill small buisiness (to make their corporate donors happy enough to donate again), vote for more government, bailouts, stimulus, a Federal Reserve who is answerable to no one, laws like NDAA and Patriot Act that allow the government to spy on Americans and detain them, indeffinitely and without evidence of having done anything wrong. All these things HURT America, they hurt the economy. And what happens in a bad economy? More abortions. Our politicians are using the abortion issue to win you over. They know that no matter what they do or how they vote, if they’re the last Pro-Life candidate standing, they’ve got your vote. SO QUIT VOTING FOR THEM!

Take the abortion issue back to your communites. Raise money to help women going through crisis pregnancies who would otherwise not abort if they had some help. Quit raising money to help politicians, they’re not helping you back. Set up crisis pregnancy centers all over America, across the street from abortion clinics. If you’ve got extra room in your home, open your home to women who need a place to live if they’re going to raise a baby. Educate people on all the devolopemental stages of the fetus. Offer to drive women to doctor’s appointments, take them grocery shopping, pay some bills during times of need. If you are religious, pray! Offer help in whatever way you possibly can, if you TRULY want to end abortion. And for God’s sake, don’t blow the moms off after the baby is born.

Absolutley no money should go to politicians, they’re not doing anything but using the issue to get your vote. Take the power back and quit relying on government to do it for you, they won’t. Quit voting for candidates simply because they’re pro-life. Since that has not affected the rate of abortion, let it be one of the very last issues you consider when voting.

We’re now up to $16 trillion in dept, and growing. We’re approaching the debt limit, again. It’s only a matter of time before the Federal Reserve prints billions more to pump into the economy, because Q1-Q3 worked so well… (sarcasm). It’s only a matter of time before we’re bailing out more banks/corporations who are failing. How much of this could have been avoided if we hadn’t dismissed candidates who had great ideas to stop it all but were pro-choice? Many. Gary Johnson was one.

I agree with most of what you said, Pepper, but personally, I would never vote for anyone who is pro-abortion. I hate the term “pro-choice” because “they” love it and call us “anti-choice”. I am not against personal choice. I simply believe a woman has a “choice” not to have unprotected sex and get pregnant. Once she IS pregnant, then the baby also has rights – mainly the RIGHT TO LIFE, which outweighs the woman’s right to choice.

Any time you vote for a pro-abortion candidate, you are contributing to the number of abortions that are happening every year in our nation. I’m old enough to remember when abortion was illegal. I guarantee that there weren’t hardly ANY abortions before Roe v Wade. You rarely heard about women that died from backstreet abortion. AND here’s an interesting fact for you: Guess who was doing the backstreet abortions?? The SAME doctors (or types of doctors now, of course) who perform abortion in the abortion clinics. They usually did the abortions after hours when their regular medical practice was closed. And – just as today – the girls didn’t receive good after care and instructions, and ended up dying sometimes from bleeding or infection. There is a big cover-up on how many women still die from LEGAL abortion…for the same reasons.

Anyway, just my two (or ten) cents worth. Love you guys!

    Aunt Joy
